venus rising (2013)
Venus Rising from the Lyd Hole at Earl's Hill, Shropshire. This was the main work in the 'Know Your Place' project which was concerned with bringing new life to the ancient myths and legends of the area. Although she is called Venus, mainly because of the parallels with Venus rising from the sea, as in Greco-Roman mythology, she could just as easily be Eastre, the Saxon godess of springtime.
Venus was ceremonially burned in situ after she had done her job of welcoming in the spring. See the Youtube video about the whole project below or via the link on the Links page.
